ENA: Fragment Ego (AU)
A little ENA x Coral Glasses because I love them and I need some hurt/comfort lmao.
This is still part of the au (as seen above), so if you have no idea what parts of this story is referring to, see the following posts:
Extremely raw rundown of the AU
AU Worker ENA information
Masterpost
After Hours
TW for PTSD and mental health stuff Word Count: 2745 (this ended up being so much longer than I meant it to be, whoops)
It had been some time since Coral Glasses started working alongside ENA and the team she worked with. She still wasn't entirely sure what they were trying to accomplish yet, but she appreciated the hard work they all seemed to put into it.
ENA was an especially hard worker, always running around doing various tasks for others. Coral eventually decided to join her on her ventures from time to time, always watching as ENA approached complete strangers with new sale pitches or divestment opportunities. Coral really admired her determination.
ENA was a little skeptical when Coral started joining her on her business ventures. Not many people actually wanted to be around her, let alone nice to her like Coral was. She tried to insist she could handle her business herself, but Coral insisted, and eventually ENA became fond of having a business partner.
After a long day, ENA and Coral were heading back to the casino to regroup with Froggy. Coral fidgeted with some papers, reading back a summary of the day's events in her head before looking up at ENA skipping just ahead of her. "[Ena?]" Coral suddenly called to her.
ENA paused mid-skip, looking behind her and letting Coral catch up to her side, "What's on the agenda, business companion?" her cheery, salesperson voice asked.
Coral also paused, averting her gaze as she tried not to wrinkle the papers in her shaky hands. "[I was... thinking that since it's been such a long day... maybe you'd like to hang out? Maybe grab a drink at the casino? Eh?]"
"Hm? Like a trust building exercise?" ENA asked, pointing a clawed finger to her chin in thought, "Ah! Yes, strong bonds between coworkers keeps business running smoothly! I would find great joy in clocking in some overtime with you."
Coral gave a small relieved sigh. She was still learning to understand ENA's strange way of communicating, but she believed that meant ENA was happy to hang out with her. She smiled softly to herself, her gaze falling to the ground as she thought about the kinds of things she and ENA would discuss.
Then suddenly the harsh, more feminine voice of ENA's meanie side interrupted her thoughts, "Hey, four-eyes! You coming or what?"
Coral perked up, shaking herself out of her thoughts completely before speeding up to catch up to her, "[Sorry...]"
The two of them headed to the bar, not saying a whole lot to one another until they sat down and ordered what they wanted. Upon receiving their drinks, they sat in silence.
Coral wasn't sure what to talk about, awkwardly sipping on her glass as she tried to come up with conversation topics. She looked over at the other. She noted how ENA tapped her jagged, geometric fingers against her glass. Her face seemed to be indecisive on which side to be on, switching between the smiling and cheery red side and the grumpy pale yellow one. It was like she didn't know how she felt, just sitting around in awkward silence in a bar. She almost seemed restless, like she ought to be doing something else. Another job.
Coral then looked around the rest of the bar, noticing how other customers would occasionally glance over at them. They were looking mostly at ENA, only really looking at Coral as if to silently question why she was sitting next to the dual-toned woman. She turned back to her drink, taking another sip and trying to ignore the prying eyes. "[So ENA, what... do you like to do for fun?]" Coral finally piped up.
That seemed to pull ENA out of her thoughts, her face finally settling on her meanie side, mouth turned down into a frown, "Fun?"
"[Yeah, you know, what do you do outside of work?]"
ENA stared at Coral for a moment, making the monotone woman feel nervous. She groaned, "I'm a very busy individual. Work hardly ends."
"[I suppose I've never seen you not working.]" Coral noted quietly to herself.
There was another awkward pause, Coral looking around the bar again to look for something else to talk about. She noted again other patrons watching ENA with mistrusting eyes, which did give her another topic to bring up. She just hoped it didn't pry too much. "[You know, ENA, ever since we started working together, I noticed that a lot of people don't seem to like you very much.]"
ENA's cheerful demeanor returned, a soothing masculine voice, "Indeed, most disagree with my business practices. It is the burden an entrepreneur must bare."
"[I- yes, I suppose so. But, and correct me if I'm wrong, I heard it was because your kind-]"
"My kind? What do you mean by that, hm?" Meanie's voice piped back in. She seemed ready to be defensive, but was willing to hold back to hear Coral out.
"[Apologies, I didn't mean for that to come off as offensive. I just suppose I'm curious about ENAs as a whole. I don't know much, but I just...]" Coral paused, sighing as she felt her cheeks warm up, "[I just want to get to know you better, and I was just curious about where you come from. That's all.]"
ENA softened a little, her bitter frown turning into that of curious indifference. She grumbled, "Fine. What do you want to know?" She knew fully well what was going to be asked next. She wasn't asked very often due to her reputation and with the way people mostly avoided her, but when they did talk to her, they all asked the same thing.
"[It's said that ENAs once came from an old genie... is that true?]"
ENA tensed up, but tried to refrain from lashing out. She really liked Coral Glasses and the friendship they were developing. She would've usually dodged the question, offering up a stepping stone to her latest pyramid scheme instead of an answer. But this time, she did have some strange, unfamiliar desire to talk about it. "It is much more of a challenge to deny than it is to confirm." ENA's salesperson voice returned, though it didn't sound as cheerful as it typically did.
Coral suddenly felt nervous. Hearing the smooth voice sound so serious as apposed to her more natural and happy demeanor was something much more nerve-racking than meanie's rude yelling.
ENA noticed the unnerved look on Coral's face before looking around at all the other patrons looking at them. Looking at her. She suddenly perked up, wiping off any note of distress on her own face to the best of her ability before looking back at Coral and returning to her typical business voice, "Ah, unfortunately I don't think that department is open to patrons at this time! Such... classified matters should be taken up to a private meeting with HR."
Coral looked at ENA with raised brows, noticing that now ENA was the one that was looking nervous despite her customer service smile. "[Did... you want to talk about this somewhere else?]" She asked.
ENA nodded, "I believe we will be more efficient in our work with less distraction. Perhaps we can go somewhere not so out in the open? Somewhere only GØD can hear us? Hm?”
Coral nodded, leaving some chocolates on the bar top to pay for their drinks. Both women stood up and left the casino, ENA following behind Coral as she led the way to her own home. “[Apologies for the mess. I’ve been so busy with work I haven’t had a chance to clean up.]”
“No worries, friend. All it takes is a place and some food,” ENA smiled before Coral led her over to a couch, letting her sit down, “but I thought you weren’t from the business district?”
“[I’m not. This is just where I’m living while I’m working here,]” Coral smiled at her, making sure she was comfortable before resuming their earlier conversation, “[So you confirm that you are indeed a genie?]”
ENA perked up again, feeling tense, “…And right back to business, I see! I always admired that about you.”
Coral felt her cheeks flush at that and she tried to hide her flattered expression through sitting down and crossing her legs, trying to come off as professional.
ENA cleared her throat, “Well, the truth is simply yes. I am the remains of the genie’s life divestment!”
“[Fascinating, but… then why does everyone hate ENAs? Genies are usually respected and loved, are they not?]”
“Well, not to have bias, but the genie was simply an entrepreneur ahead of her time. The people didn’t understand the stock she was selling nor the sacrifices she had to make to get the work done,” ENA said with great pride, like she was defending GØD themself, “I’m surprised a brilliant mind like yours is not already in the loop.”
Coral chuckled nervously, “[Ah, I tend to indulge myself in my job rather than go off on historical tangents. Admittedly, my knowledge of genies only goes as far as work-related things. Like that one time I was searching for the horse door genie inauguration coordinator. In fact, that’s actually where I heard the supposed rumor of you being a genie, ENA.]”
“Oh, don’t be mistaken. I am not a genie. Though I do enjoy bringing small pleasures to those I provide services for,” ENA clapped happily at the thought of working again.
“[Ah, right. You only originate from a genie…]” Coral hummed, “[So what was it like then? To have been a genie?]”
That question made something stir within ENA as she paused, hands grabbing at fabric of her pants. Her red smile folded downwards, a frown forming on her pale yellow side. Coral also frowned, realizing she just struck a nerve.
ENA’s feminine meanie voice finally spoke. It wasn’t a yell like Coral had expected, but a soft, distressed voice, “I am but a fragment of the genie, and my memory reflects as such. I recall horrors I have never experienced and the things that other bloodlines despise me for.”
Coral’s eyes widened a bit. She had never seen the hard worker crumble like this, “[ENA? Are you okay?]” ENA’s face was downturned, her hat covering whatever expression she was wearing. Coral put a hand on ENA’s shoulder, “[ENA, I’m sorry, didn’t mean to upset you.]”
ENA’s face snapped back up, giving Coral a view of her face. It was an alarming view, the red side of her face was completely dark and her pale yellow side was more of a cold gray. The whites of her eyes were completely black and her usually dark iris was a bright white. Her hands remained on her thighs, fingers digging into the fabric of her pants and even slightly tearing up the fabric from the intense grip. She twitched and trembled uncontrollably.
“I-I’m not—“ ENA paused, lips trembling as she spoke. It almost sounded like the wind had been knocked out of her. “—a bad person. I was— just doing my job!”
Coral moved her hand off of ENA’s shoulder, instead grabbing both of her hands, letting the other woman squeeze her hands for comfort. The sharp, angular claws dug into her skin but she didn’t want to pull away, not when ENA was in such a state. The monotone woman frowned, brows furrowed in uncertainty of what to do to help. Something told her that ENA had been burying this down for a while with no one to really talk to about it. She took a deep breath, “[I know, ENA. You’re not a bad person.]”
ENA looked at Coral with a distant gaze, though it seemed more like she was staring through her, her mind somewhere else. She then looked down at her hands, realizing how much she was squeezing and digging her claws into Coral’s, small amounts of blood seeping from the punctures. She froze, “I’m hurting you.” ENA released Coral, bringing her hands to her chest and scratching the blood off her fingertips, “I’m sorry. All I ever do is hurt people. That’s all I’m good for.”
Coral looked down at her bleeding hands, just kind of shaking them like that would make them feel better. "[Hey, it's okay. I'm fine.]" Coral reassured her, grabbing her hands again and offering a soft smile, "[but again, you're not a bad person, ENA. I love working with you. You're funny and so passionate about your work... even when you don't want to be. I know you've done some things in the past that you're not proud of but, like you said, you were just doing your job.]"
ENA looked at her again, really looked at her. The white iris staring at her. Her lips parted as if to say something, but nothing came out, so instead she pressed her lips together in a straight line. She felt Coral's hands in hers, squeezing them gently. A small, barely noticeable smile crossed the anxious gray face.
Without warning, ENA wrapped her arms around Coral, leaning her head against the other's shoulder. "Thank you. No one's ever told me that before."
Coral was frozen in place for a moment before she fully accepted the hug. She frowned slightly at what ENA told her but didn't say anything about it, she just held ENA in her arms for as long as she needed to.
The two of them stayed like that for some time before ENA spoke up again, "I hope I'm not intruding when I ask but could I... stay in your company for the night?"
"[Of course, ENA. I would... greatly enjoy clocking in some more overtime with you,]" Coral answered with a small chuckle.
ENA looked up at her, her face having returned to normal now and giving Coral a rare sight. Her pale yellow meanie side was actually smiling. Like- genuinely smiling. Not the sneer she typically had before she was going to insult you and call you names. It seemed both sides of her were just content in the moment. She laughed before resting her forehead against Coral's, "Now you're speaking my language. Thank you."
Coral blushed, being so close to ENA like this. Sweat dripped down the side of her forehead, "[Let's get you to bed. You must be tired.]"
ENA's salesperson voice finally picked up again, "I usually don't like to clock out, but I suppose it's time for me to get off this emotional rollercoaster."
Coral stood up, grabbing ENA's mitten-like hand in hers and led her to a bedroom, "[I don't think I have any night clothes that would fit you, unfortunately, but you're free to look around in my closet.]"
"I am fine with sleeping in my uniform." ENA waved a dismissive hand.
Coral nodded, "[Very well. Uh- make yourself comfortable. My room's just down the hall if you need me-]"
"You're leaving?" ENA asked as she started getting comfortable.
"[I figured since you were tired you'd want to go to bed-]"
"Just because I'm sleeping doesn't mean you have to leave, Coral."
Coral's heart skipped a beat. Come to think of it, ENA had never called her by her name. She wasn't sure if she called anyone by their actual name, perhaps another strange quirk of her abnormal speech patterns.
"[You want to share a room?]"
ENA's feminine voice jumped back in, a nervous frown crossing her face. The blue shadow that usually clung to her forehead looked like it was creeping down the rest of her face, "I don't think I could bear the barbarity of being alone right now." She admitted.
Coral fidgeted with her fingers, "[Alright, I think I can... try to provide some comfort-]" she was cut off when ENA suddenly reached for her arm and pulled her down onto the mattress. They both laid down and got comfortable, ENA making herself feel right at home with her arms wrapped around Coral's waist.
They laid there in silence for a few moments, ENA softly breathing against Coral's abdomen with her eyes closed.
Then she suddenly spoke. A soft, dreamy tone... probably the most relaxed tone of voice Coral had ever heard from the business woman. "Coral?" ENA yawned, "Have you... ever considered having a long-term business companion?"
Coral lifted her head to look down at ENA, who was already softly snoring like she hadn't said anything at all. She sighed and laid her head back down.
She didn't always understand ENA's business metaphors, but she quietly hoped that she had interpreted this one correctly.

ENA: Fragment Ego (AU)
Masterpost
Welcome back to my ENA au! If you missed the messy background for this idea, you can read it here.
This is still a work in progress so things might get a little confusing.
Today, we’re talking about this lovely boss lady!
Art by me :]
Worker ENA:
This ENA is an older fragment, working a job and generally have a more "mature" demeanor.
Note: ENAs don't have a real age, just varying levels of maturity. They were all born at once, but exist at different stages of life.
She holds a load of memories of the genie she used to be a part of, mostly ones that involved the war the genie had started. She experiences PTSD flashbacks from her former life as a genie. Due to these war memories, she has a predisposition to be a soldier for those she takes jobs from. She's rather good at it too. She's even a good mercenary.
With her Salesperson ego, she can be incredibly charismatic. It's naturally easy for her to get her target's guard down. Interrogation is also something she excels at, both her salesperson side and her meanie side acting as a kind of bad cop/good cop tactic.
Due to her ample amount of memories of the war, she is quite aware of her origins as a genie, and therefore completely understands why those around her treat her so poorly. She tries not to let it get to her, often ignoring it, but the treatment often triggers her flashbacks.
So why would an ENA fully aware of her status as a former genie bother to work for others?
Well, as a genie she was supposed to fulfill wishes. And while she can no longer grant eternal happiness or wealth beyond imagination like she used to, doing odd jobs and making sales is like... granting smaller wishes.
Keeping a job also distracts her from the horrors™.
When approached and questioned about her origins, she will avoid talking about it and will instead try to offer you some divestment opportunity or try to sell you something.
ENAs will typically avoid one another, mostly subconsciously. Due to being fragments of the same entity, they are vaguely aware of one another's locations at all times. It's all a subconscious process and they're probably not even fully aware that that's what's going on. Sometimes they just know that they should really avoid a certain area or direction until the feeling passes.
However, I like to think that if worker ENA did ever encounter another ENA, especially one of a younger maturity level, she'd definitely become somewhat motherly toward them in her... ENA way.
That's the basic rundown of worker ENA. I love her very much.
#ENA: Fragment Ego#ENA au#ena: dream bbq#ena joel g#ena fanart#worker ena#motherly bit mostly inspired by the humanboard being her stillborn child theory#she's so weird and yet she just gives motherly vibes#with a hint of irresponsible dad too#i would say she would probably be jealous of an ENA without awareness of the genie thing#but I don't really see worker ENA experiencing that sort of emotion#i can't describe it

ENA: Fragment Ego (AU)
ENA returns to the bathroom to meet Theodora and learn more about her origins.
Small hint of ENAdora here because why have one yuri when you can have more?
Don't know what this au is? Here's the Masterpost!
Note: I know it might be that the Lonely Door-and Theodora by extension-is inaccessible after the events of Chapter One, but shhhh
Confession Booth
Word Count: 1702
Her legs wobbled like a fawn learning to walk for the first time. Her body ached and screamed in agony as she stumbled forward, falling onto the solid darkness below her feet. She clung to it like she hadn’t stood on solid ground in ages.
ENA looked back at the white river, nauseated from jumping across the flimsy rafts with a migraine pounding at her head. This damn bathroom had better be worth coming a second time.
She entered the bathroom, approaching the well as she had before. The hole in her abdomen ached. If she wasn’t so desperate for answers, there was no way she would’ve put herself through all of this again. Froggy and Coral Glasses even advised her against it. However, ENA just couldn’t shake the feeling that she had to come back. After meeting Theodora for the first time… something felt off. Maybe it was the brief moment of having her sins lifted off her shoulders before being slammed down with them again, but it was like she caught a glimpse of a past life. A life where she was different.
Of course, she had always lived with the knowledge of being a fragment of a former genie. The memories haunted her. But she didn’t know much beyond that. Her view of the past life was just a peep through a keyhole, one that gave her nightmares and panic attacks.
Meeting with Theodora… well, she wasn’t entirely sure what to expect, but she hoped she could find some remedy for the pain. Maybe a hope that she wasn’t an all-horrible genie before shattering.
She stepped a foot up on the edge of the well, the hands of her orange, glowing spirit grabbing onto the rope and beginning to pull the genie back up as she had before.
The statuesque genie was hanging on the end of the rope just like before.
“[Congratulations on reaching the bathroom. It is I, Theodora, genie of these lands— wait.]” Theodora looked over ENA’s familiar face, this time not healing ENA of her gaping wound and returning her to normal before realizing who she was. “[You again? I already gave you what you wanted, ENA. It doesn’t matter how many times you come here, you are simply unforgivable.]”
ENA spoke from the astral projection that protruded from her abdomen, “I am not here for forgiveness, nor am I here for- business matters,” she struggled to get her words out through her pain, “I want answers.”
It was weird how easily it was to get out what she wanted to say. No business metaphors, no beating around the bush with her words; just saying what was on her mind. Her language was just as raw and bare as her body was in this place.
Theodora raised a brow at her, “[You seem different than many of your counterparts. I’m surprised I didn’t see that before. But what answers were you looking for? I’ll see if they’re worth answering, I suppose that’s the least I can do for you after reaching this place… twice.]”
“You… know me. Don’t you?”
Theodora paused, noticing how much ENA struggled to speak with her wounds. “[Perhaps this would be easier if I restored your body-]”
“No!” ENA shook her head, “No. This is the most- straightforward line of thinking I’ve had. Return me to normal and I’m not sure if I’ll be able to— speak with you properly… in the way I need to.” She coughed, “now, tell me. You know me, don’t you? And not in the- in the way everyone else does with their immediate distrust of my kind. You know me… ENA…personally.”
Theodora watched and listened to ENA with a somber expression. It was almost like seeing the dual-toned woman so misshapen was painful for her. Then it was like a switch was flipped, eyes widening as she realized the full picture of who ENA, at least this ENA, was. “[You… remember?]”
ENA looked at her with tired eyes, pinching the bridge of her spirit nose, “Much to my dismay…” she groaned, “I don’t have a lot of the memories from the old genie, I don’t even remember the name. It’s all just… bullets and- and bloodshed. That’s why I’m looking for the bigger story. I couldn’t have been… that bad, could I?”
Theodora frowned, “[Ah, so it seems like you’re overtly aware of why you can’t be trusted.]”
ENA groaned, “I guess that’s one way to put it, yes.”
“[I have yet to meet another of your kind that is aware of where she comes from. This is a curious development.]”
“I definitely haven’t found anyone to commiserate with.” ENA groaned, “but you still haven’t answered my question.”
Theodora sighed and finally answered, “[We were friends once. Well, the genie you come from and I.]”
ENA looked up at Theodora, noticing how the genie was looking off in the distance. Recalling a time long gone. She then looked back at ENA, “[I must say, of all the ENAs I’ve met, you remind me of her the most. Maybe it’s because of the memories you hold, but you look so much like her. Especially like this.]” Theodora gestured to ENA’s raw, hungover state, “[I mean, she took on a lot of different forms. She loved drastically changing her appearance every day. She settled on something that looks very similar to you, though. The short hair, triangular eyes and all that.]”
“You seem to have been very fond of her,” ENA murmured.
“[She was my closest friend. Though, to this day I have no idea why she did what she did.]” Theodora sighed in her sing-song voice.
“What did she do anyway? I know the aftermath but not what actually happened,” ENA asked with a somberness in her voice, her hands growing shaky as memories resurfaced again.
"[She started a war, not much else to it,]" Theodora seemed to shrug, in her little clay doll way, "[She never explained herself. Not her reasoning, not what she intended to accomplish, nothing. She just started a war with the other genies, split herself up to make her soldiers, and in doing so, she destroyed herself and her door along with it.]"
"Split herself up?"
Theodora nodded, "[That's when your kind began to pop up. Judging by what you recall, I imagine you might be the remains of one of her soldier vessels, which would explain why you remember more than most.]"
ENA sat in silence for a few moments, sitting down on the cold bathroom floor to take everything in. She clasped her hands together and stared at the ground. Both the orange and the dull, exhausted ones. A pale hand came up to ENA's face, rubbing her tired eyes. "What was her name?"
"[ENAMI,]" Theodora answered simply, "[Hence your kind being named ENA. Just a part of her name, just like you are just a part of her.]"
"I see." ENA gave a small nod, feeling sick from the new knowledge. She nearly puked, putting her two sets of hands over her two sets of mouths.
Theodora looked over at the fragmented woman, "[I think that's enough of humoring your questions, sinner. You look unwell.]"
"Wait! I still have so much to-"
Before she could even finish her sentence, the bathroom around her went dark and she was suddenly in the palms of a large statue of a woman, Theodora reflecting from the eyes, "[Too late! I can no longer stand the stench of your sins and your face pains me. Take your nonsense and leave.]"
ENA's exhausted eyes looked down at her abdomen as the hole in it repaired itself as it had done before. She was wrapped up in a cocoon, though instead of briefly turning into an angel as she had the first time, it broke before her wings could sprout and she was just left standing there in awe and bewilderment as her red and pale yellow halves returned. Her thoughts became contradictory and nonsensical as they had always been, like an ocean wave crashing down on an island of molten cloud.
She just stood there frozen looking up at Theodora for a moment as she recollected herself, finally shaking herself out of the trance. "Run the sales pitch by me again?" ENA asked in her cheery salesperson tone, turning to Theodora once she turned back into her clay doll appearance, "Can I get a business card on my way out?"
Theodora shook her head, "[Don't return here again, ENA. I have nothing else to grant you. Door's over there. It will take you back to the casino.]" A door appeared on the other side of the bathroom.
"Very well. I can tell when my services aren't wanted," ENA agreed, tipping her hat to Theodora and heading over to the exit. She was just about to turn the handle and step through when she was suddenly back in the palm of Theodora's statuesque hands.
"[B-before you go, I uh-]" The large statue looked down at her, looking nervous. ENA almost went to reply but was interrupted when she felt the statue's lips against her face for a brief moment. Then she was back in front of the door and Theodora's clay doll was awkwardly sitting on the edge of the well refusing to make eye contact, "[Now get out.]"
ENA was stunned, staring abashedly at the genie while fumbling awkwardly for the door handle. She stepped into the casino and closed the door behind her just before her body turned to jelly and she collapsed.
Coral Glasses and Froggy were just across the way, chatting about work when ENA had suddenly emerged from the door that hadn't been there before. They both jumped when she suddenly collapsed and walked over to check on her. "[ENA? Stop lazing around!]" Froggy said, grabbing her hand and pulling her up to her feet, revealing the huge grin on her face. Froggy raised a brow, "[What are you so happy for?]"
ENA blinked, straightening herself out, "Oh I'm just having a wonderous day off work, that's all!"
Coral and Froggy glanced at each other before ENA pushed past the both of them.
"[...she hates taking days off work.]"
Yippee! Little genie backstory :D
I’m still struggling with the genie’s (ENAMI) full appearance but here’s a little doodle

I have so many thoughts and ideas for this au, I’m struggling to figure out what I should be posting about first.

ENA: Fragment Ego (AU)
Master Post
Refining the absolute word salad that was this post
I want to make it clear that Fragment Ego is going to focus less on the comical absurdity of ENA's world and ENA herself and more on the adverse mental effects of it. There'll be some silly doodles and stories here and there, of course, but the overall story will have a more serious tone.
Main Premise of the AU: ENAs are a species of a collective consciousness that originate from an old genie. Each ENA is a fragment of the genie, holding certain memories, emotions, and personality traits. Some remember where they come from (and are traumatized by it). Some don't remember and live their lives normally (whatever that means to them).
The original genie was named Enami, and she looked very similar to what ENAs look like now with dual tones that switch back and forth a lot. However, she had the ability to change her appearance as she desired.
In my head, each genie has a specialty that they preside over. Enami would be the genie of change, which is why she would change her appearance so much.
One day, kind of out of nowhere, Enami waged war on the other genies and doors. She began to break off fragments of herself to create soldiers, which is when ENA began to pop up in the world. Eventually, Enami fragmented herself to the point of collapse and the war she began ended. The rest of her body fragmented into more ENAs and they began to gain free will, the soldier ENAs included, and they began living their lives as normal people... to the best of their abilities.
Since the war ended, other entities are unsure of what to make of the new ENA population. It's unclear if they are still a part of one consciousness that belongs to Enami, or if they're entirely separated from her, or if they've become something entirely different. And if they bother to ask an ENA, they generally get mixed answers. Sometimes even ENA doesn't know. ENAs don't really talk to one another so they have no real frame of reference.
Enami was friends with the genies of the other doors, especially Theodora (and maybe some others but it's hard to say since we haven't seen many of them. Also ENAdora my beloved.) She did not tell the other genies why she was starting her little war, so to them it seemed like she just went crazy. Theodora was deeply betrayed by the war and hurt by the loss of her friend.
Due to being from a genie infamous for starting a war, ENAs are deeply disliked by most entities. ENAs that fragmented off solely to be soldiers are especially hated and mistrusted, seen to be violent by nature.
But also, the blood and body parts of ENA are highly valuable. Some believe they can even act like a monkey's paw, granting wishes at a horrible price.
And I think that's as refined as I'm gonna get. Gonna save the other stuff for more detailed infodumps!

ENA: Fragment Ego (AU)
Masterpost
Classic ENA
The girl, the myth, the legend
Classic ENA is a younger fragment (20-22 if you want an age range).
Note: Again, ENAs don't have a real age, just varying levels of maturity.
She holds little to no memories of the genie she came from and therefore is unaware of her origins (at least, at first). She holds the genie’s emotions of happiness and sadness and has had the opportunity to develop her own personality that isn’t just a remnant of the genie’s.
Most people actually like this ENA and generally don’t associate her with the infamous genie she used to be a part of. This is mostly thanks to Moony, who has introduced her to a lot of the people in the world. She’s known to be a good friend and a generally kind person, so people are friendly to her. It’s pretty rare for her to run into people that hold disdain for her.
She spends most of her time with friends, mostly Moony. She enjoys the small moments in life while trying to learn about the weird world she lives in.
Because she is younger than, say, Worker ENA, she is still learning to control her emotions and her two halves. They cut into one another and interrupt each other a lot, causing her to swing from happy to sad and back rapidly. It’s exhausting.
When approached and asked about her origins, she straight up has no idea what you're talking about. In the event of meeting someone who holds a disdain for ENAs, she doesn't understand why. She assumes it's just the way things are, but she never sees others of her kind to really figure it out.
I like to think she figured some things out in Power of Potluck, becoming more stable in her emotions and no longer feeling the need to try and hide her sad side. She may have also been given some hint of her origins, but hasn’t looked too deep into it yet. She's just aware that she's... different than everyone else. She also tends to question the logic of the world more often than most, though not to the point of dwelling on it and trying to come up with a logical explanation. She knows that's a lost cause in the long run.

Hiiii, I love ur ena au :))))) very cool!
Awe thank you so much! I’m having a lot of fun with it and I love seeing everyone else enjoy it too :D
I have a lot planned for it but it’s also so intangible than I’m having a hard time actually making the stuff for it. At this rate I probably just need to write a fic for it.

So the whole reason I started thinking about this was because I heard the theory of ENA being an entity with one consciousness but multiple bodies, like a hive-mind.
And I loved that idea… and took it a step further kinda. Though now I’m not even sure if the theory applies to au now that I’ve expanded upon it. But anyway—
Once again gonna note here:
THIS IS NOT A THEORY NOR AM I TRYING TO IMPLY THAT IT IS CANON AND TRUE. This is just silly au stuff because I really enjoy “rewriting” canons of franchises I love dearly.
But TL;DR I’m playing around with the idea of ENA(s) being fragmented parts of an old god/genie.
So if that sounds interesting, more below the cut!
Edit: This AU has a masterpost now. Check it out
This is gonna be a basic overview of the idea, I’m still ironing out specifics. If I get really invested in this/other people show interest in it, I’d be more than happy to like- draw stuff and elaborate on it more.
I might add side notes to the explanation every now and then. This is just gonna be a very raw basic rundown, so apologies if this isn’t very coherent. I am just running on excited brain juices right now lmao. Side notes will be in this lovely purple color.
Anyway, a long, long time ago a genie was killed. It didn’t “die”, per se, but instead fragmented into countless smaller pieces. Each of these fragments held pieces of the genie: emotions, personality traits, memories, etc. and carried them as if they were their own. Most of these fragments could only carry two pieces, but it would theoretically be possible for a fragment to hold more than that.
These fragments were eventually named ENA.
I imagine the genie might’ve had a name similar to ENA. I temporarily named it RENAS, like RUNAS from temptation stairway. Like maybe they were related at some point, but I’m still trying to figure it out. I don’t know if RUNAS is considered a genie. It granted wishes though, so maybe it is? Point is, the fragments were likely named ENA due to their origin being named something similar.
Residents of the world aren’t entirely sure what to make of ENA and her true nature is unknown. Is she a single entity with multiple bodies? Is she a species born of the genie’s remains? Does she still have genie powers? It’s inconclusive. And ENA isn’t a reliable source herself. Some of her bodies are combative when asked about it, some claim that they don’t remember, some outright deny the story. And the ones that do answer give very different and contradictory stories.
If anyone bothers to ask them, at least. Most people resent ENA and don’t really give her the time of day regardless of the form she takes. The original genie wasn’t exactly loved or respected.
Current idea is that the genie was responsible for some kind of war which ultimately ended in its demise and fragmentation.
Due to ENA’s origins, she is disrespected and treated like she is worthless, but her blood is incredibly valuable. Surely the blood of a former genie would have something special about it, right?
Also due to her origins, ENA is well known by the other genies like Theodora. And due to ENA’s actions as a genie, she is unforgiven and will always be born a sinner in their eyes.
So is ENA aware of her origins as a genie? Well— sometimes. It depends on which body you approach. Although they all share a “conscious” they’re still individual and have different sets of memories. The ones that are unaware go through life with people acknowledging her like she’s something higher than she believes she is and… kind of just accept it as normal.
She might be disappointed and upset when someone calls her an unforgivable sinner from time to time, but it’s also just another Tuesday. She’s abnormally aware of others like her and that they experience the same thing despite never really interacting or seeing them, so this just happens, nothing to fret about.
I think it would be silly that, because the viewer sees everything from ENA’s POV, she is just as clueless about what she is as we are. We think she’s just a part of a larger species? So does she. We think she’s part of a hive mind with other ENAs? That’s a reasonable assumption for her too. Only difference is that she doesn’t think about it too hard and just kind of accepts the way life is. Even if she were to be told her true origins of where she came from, she’d probably just be like “okay cool :D anyway”
This only applies to ENAs that are completely clueless about the genie origin thing, of course. Those that know are probably painfully aware of it but still try to live as normally as possible. Like by getting jobs and such.
Anyway, I think that’s all I can really info dump about right now. I have a lot more thoughts, including thoughts about AU specific series ENA and Dream BBQ ENA, but I’m gonna leave those for a different infodump post.
Mmm what if,, I made au based on my ENA theories/headcanons,, mmmmmmm

Hi hello i heard you have a brainrot and no asks, so here i am asking what rots your brain 👁️👁️
HI! HELLO! THANK YOU! I LOVE YOU! MUAH
Right now I have ENA brain rot,, you could probably tell by how my blog is filled with ENA stuff right now lmao.
Fragment Ego has been one of the first things I’ve felt super passionate about in a little while. I’ve been in a creative rut for a hot minute ngl. And everyone has been enjoying the au so it shall continue.
I also have sonic brain rot but that’s mostly reserved for playing the games rather than making au stuff. One day I’ll figure out how to draw the characters and come out with neat designs but for now,, ENA shall remain,,
